A cousin of mine from Minnesota introduced Shayne and me back in 2009. It was ironic with him being from Minnesota, just a few short miles from where my mother was born and raised. That alone sparked my interest! We then began to communicate. After a few months, a few cards, a few flowers, and many long conversations, we both felt like we already knew each other, but agreed it was time to personally meet. Shayne flew down in February of 2010 and made his appearance in Myrtle Beach to meet my family and me. After spending this time together, we both knew we had something extra special! The only thing was that his life was in Minnesota and mine was in Myrtle Beach. The distance in miles seemed so far, but within our hearts, we felt ourselves growing closer and closer, and falling more in love every day. We were so dedicated and committed to each other that we knew we would do whatever it took to be together! Shayne proposed to me on July 4th of that same year here in Myrtle Beach in front of his parents from MN, my family and friends.
Then, I decided to move to Minnesota to be with him. It was quite the move to the “North Pole” with me being a true Southern girl! Burrrrrr! We have lived apart, both lived in both places, and currently live in Minnesota. Through all of this, our love has grown stronger, and we realize that as long as we’re together, it doesn’t really matter where we are! Believe you me, I would have never dreamed of living in Minnesota, much less marrying a man from there! We have compromised and plan to eventually make our life here in the South when the timing is right. That’s the best part…being married to the love of my life and knowing we will be HOME one day!
What inspired your wedding?
The winters in Minnesota inspired me to bring the winter wonderland theme to South Carolina. I wanted a romantic setting, so we had an evening wedding lit by candles and dimmed chandeliers.
What colors, themes, and handmade elements did you include on your wedding day?
My winter wonderland theme and colors were white and ivory, gold and silver, with pops of blush and gray. We included glitter, crystals, all white flowers, snowballs, snowflakes, and even a hot chocolate bar. I wore a fur throw for pictures and at our bridal entrance and departure to top off the evening. My sister hand painted all of my canvases and lots of little details to make it extra personal. My mother handmade a beautiful sleigh from scratch that was decorated with snow and lights. I knew from the beginning of my planning that I wanted my precious nephew to ride in a sleigh if we could make it happen! Also we both wrote our own vows, Shayne sang to me, and we got our first dance choreographed. All of these details made for a magical evening!
What do you love most about weddings in the South?
With me being born and raised in the South, I always knew I wanted a Southern wedding. Plus, isn’t everything better in the South?! I just love how charming the South can be. It was so nice having our Minnesota guests experience the Southern hospitality.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
The favorite part of my wedding was having our family and friends by our sides, and knowing it was all I have ever dreamed of!
What advice do you have to share with future brides?
My advice for future brides would be to cherish and savor every moment from beginning to end… Don’t stress, and make it all an enjoyable journey! Finding the right groom is important, too!
